Abstract:

NuScale is leading the race to be the first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) to be licensed and deployed in the USA. The NuScale SMR module is a 60 MWe (gross) integrated PWR with innovative features, especially the passive safety systems that enable the reactor to be cooled indefinitely without attention. Tony will review the design and the progress through USNRC licensing. Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) will be the first owner and a site has been obtained within the DOE Idaho National Labs area. First module is scheduled to be operating in 2026.
