Rob Parker, ANA President, presented the 2016 ANA Award to Dr Ron Cameron at the ANA Lunch on Friday 2 December 2016 in the Club-on-East, Sutherland.
The award recognises Ron’s outstanding contribution to nuclear science and technology in Australia by his many contributions to the safe and effective operation of ANSTO nuclear facilities, his leading role in the tendering, licensing and construction of the OPAL research reactor, and his contribution to global nuclear developments as Head of Nuclear Development for the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.
Dr Cameron held a succession of senior management roles at ANSTO: Director of the ANSTO Safety and Radiation Science Division (1994 to 2002), Chief of Operations (2004-2008) and acting CEO (2008-2009). He was awarded a Public Service Medal for his role in the construction of the OPAL research reactor in the Queen’s Birthday Honours (June 2009).
He was Australia’s National Representative for the IAEA Regional Cooperative Agreement among the 17 countries in our region and Australia National Coordinator for the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia.
From 2010 to 2014, Dr Cameron was Head of the Nuclear Development Division at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, which provides advice to 28 member governments on policy and strategic issues related to all aspects of nuclear power development and the nuclear fuel cycle.
Dr Ron Cameron established his own company in 2014 providing advice to the UK government and the UK nuclear insurance pool on nuclear new build.
